About Me

Melchiore Buscemi MD is a native New Yorker. He graduated from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, New York with a degree in Biology. During his undergraduate education, Dr. Buscemi was a volunteer Fire Fighter and an accomplished Cellist, often playing in Off-Broadway shows in various places in New York.

Dr. Buscemi attended medical school at The Autonomous University of Guadalajara, Guadalajara, Mexico, with clinical rotations during his third and fourth years at Wyckoff Heights Hospital in New York City. He completed an externship at Queens Hospital, Queens, New York, and received his Medical Degree from the State University of New York in 1984. During this time Dr. Buscemi was the Lead Author, publishing articles in Genetics and Virology in the Journal, ‘UROLOGY.'

Dr. Buscemi completed his General Surgery training at Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in New York City in 1986. From 1986 - to 1989 he attended and completed his Urology Residency at The University of Buffalo and Roswell Park Cancer Center in Buffalo, New York.

After completing his Urology residency, he started his career at the Lehigh Valley Medical Center in Allentown, Pennsylvania. He became Board Certified in Urology in 1991.

In 1992 Dr. Buscemi moved to St. Lawrence County in Northern New York. He became the founder and managing partner of St. Lawrence Urology Associates. He has a thirty-year association with Canton Potsdam hospital, Massena Memorial hospital, and E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur New York. He held the office of Chief of Urology.

In 1995 he became the founder and President of the North Country physicians Organization. This organization managed relationships between Physicians, Medical Centers, and Insurance Companies. This organization was paramount in helping to improve HMO Healthcare in the area. This was very beneficial to the many patients in this very rural community of upstate New York. He has been an active member of the American Urologic Association, the American Board of Urology, and the American Medical Association for 30 years. He has remained a dedicated and well-respected Board Certified Urologist. Dr. Buscemi has been a clinical instructor for Medical students, Physician Assistants, and Nurse Practitioner students for many years.

Dr. Buscemi treats a wide variety of Urologic conditions. His special areas of interest include Benign Prostatic Hypertrophy (BPH), bladder cancer, erectile dysfunction, hypogonadism, male and female urinary incontinence, Peyronie's disease, prostate cancer, prostatic urology, testicular cancer, urinary stone disease, male infertility and family planning, interstitial cystitis, urethral strictures, and a variety of conditions producing chronic renal failure.

Dr. Buscemi practices medicine with a complete holistic approach. He believes that many common illnesses and ailments can be managed and treated with dietary and lifestyle changes and modifications. He is convinced that the use of medications and surgery should be utilized only when all other measures have failed. He really enjoys educating his patients and assisting them in developing specialized treatment plans unique to them and their particular conditions and concerns.

In his free time, Dr. Buscemi is an avid cyclist, mountain climber, and skier. He also enjoys tennis, swimming, and loves to cook. He is happily married and enjoys traveling and being with his wife and three children.
